Timeless Songs, Very Much Alive and Relevant

Canadian fiddler, vocalist, and stepdancer April Verch brings together a mix a North American and old world roots music on The Newpart, her tenth recording. The majority of the material on the new album shows deep bluegrass and old time influences, although she also adds Ottawan folk, Canadian metis and a Swedish polska.

April Verch stands out as a violin virtuoso playing ‘old style’ fiddle, as a stepdancer, and a vocalist with a character that combines early jazz with old time, although she lacks the southern Appalachian accent that characterizes a lot of bluegrass music.

The lineup on The Newpart includes April Verch on fiddle, lead vocals, and stepdancing foot percussion; Cody Walters on bass, clawhammer banjo, harmony vocals, and lead vocals on one song; and Hayes Griffin on acoustic guitar, mandolin and harmony vocals. Producer and engineer Casey Drissen plays bass on one track.
